Mundy is a name first brought to England by Godfrey, Count of Mondaye, ancestor of the Mundy family who fought with William, Duke of Normandy at the Battle of Hastings Norman Conquest of 1066. The Mundy family lived in Derbyshire. The name however is a reference to the family's place of residence prior to the Norman conquest of England in Mundeyville, Normandy where they inhabited Fécamp Abbey and from Juaye-Mondaye.
